Body = UC Berkeley Center for Infectious Disease Preparedness is
offering a course on disaster preparedness for special needs populations.
The segments are designed to help public health and emergency response
professionals and other decision-makers to better understand and
effectively address disaster preparedness for special needs residents.
Dates & Topics:
Mar 29th: Defining ˜vulnerable” and ˜special needs”
communities April 5th: Disaster threats and traditional emergency
service agencies April 12th: Marketing, Outreach, Public Information
and barriers to reaching people with special needs April 19th: Community
Based Organizations in preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation
April 26th: Tools and resources for serving hard-to-reach populations
May 3rd: Empowered Partnerships - how public health workers, local
government and committed community partners can best support special
needs preparedness
May 10th: Class recap and presentation of class projects

needs residents are encouraged to attend to share their knowledge
and experience.
The course is presented by Ana-Marie Jones, Executive Director,
CARD - Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters.
Created after the Loma Prieta earthquake, CARD specializes in providing
emergency preparedness and disaster response support to community
agencies and others serving at-risk, marginalized and special needs
clients.
Funded by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, United Way of the Bay
Area, Alameda County Operational Area and other local agencies,
