 FOR IMMEDIATE
              RELEASEJuly 26, 2005
 NATIONAL “AMERICA
LOVES MATH” CONTEST TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIP PRIZES The latest technology
and a healthy dose of rivalry make math come alive for students
in the Online Math League GRAND RAPIDS,
MI – Math isn’t typically considered to be something
that most of us enjoy. We tease the “bean counters,”
dread splitting any restaurant bill, and rely heavily on calculators
for everything else that involves numbers. But all that
is about to change. Math is about to become fun. The Online Math
League (www.onlinemathleague.com) a new organization dedicated to
improving students’ skills and enthusiasm for math, announces
its first annual “America Loves Math” contest with $1500
in college scholarships. Founded to generate
enthusiasm for math in the classroom and at home, the Online Math
League provides a series of math competitions for 3rd through 12th
grade homeschoolers, school teams, and individual students. After
each competition, student scores are immediately posted to the site in real time,
providing quick feedback for students, teachers, and families.
 The first annual
national “America Loves Math” competition will give
students the opportunity to tell the world what’s best about
              crunching numbers.
Students in grades 3 through 12 are invited to submit a brief essay
(250 words or less) about why they love math. Essays will be judged
              in three age categories:
Elementary (3rd-5th grades), Junior High (6th-8th grades) and High
School (9th-12th grades). The best overall essay (from any age category)
will win the Grand Prize: a $1000 college scholarship and a free
individual entry into the 2005-2006 Online Math League. $250 college
scholarships and free individual Online Math League entries will
be awarded to the best essays in each of the age ranges not represented
