Attempting to live a normal life filled with Jewish traditions in early twentieth century Russia, Tevye, a dairyman, is searching for appropriate husbands for his three eldest daughters -Tzeital, Hodel and Chava. In a break of tradition, his daughters refuse to accept the wishes of the matchmaker Yente, and their Father. Instead, they go against tradition and marry men they truly love. Meanwhile, The Russians are instigating terrible threats against the Jewish people in Russia causing fear and harm. In the end, the Jews of Anatevka are forced to leave their humble homes with little or nothing. Tevye and the entire community of these brave souls are determined to start a better life in a new land. This story, no matter how many times is produced, will always leave you with that tight lump in your throat and the inability to hold back your tears.
SHAUNA GOODGOLD IS \"HODEL\"
Playing the role of Tevye\'s second-oldest daughter, who is in love with Perchik, is expertly played by the lovable Shauna Goodgold, whose powerfully pure voice, and lilting emotional lyrical dance movements, gives you chills, as you feel her expressively pleading vocals and tender balletic moving pleas in her solo song \"Far From the Home I Love.\" Shauna gives to the audience a realistic charming, poignant performance. Bring out the tissues. Shauna\'s role as \"Hodel\" reminds us why, no matter what religion, belief or nationality we hold dear to our hearts, our children\'s strengths, struggles and happiness, are the most important issues in our lives and theirs. Shauna\'s performance smacks you right in the gut where we are most vulnerable. The combination of that wondrous voice and her beautiful dance lines, keeps your eyes bolted on her performance. The fine line of hoping for acceptance from the parent whom you love, and the need to feel your own joy, happiness and independence is a timeless human issue. The most precious and wondrous accomplishment is the creation of another human life. Shauna\'s soft expressive brown eyes gives us a clue that she has a deeper level of experience and understanding of life\'s melancholy side, despite her innocent youthfulness. She emanates a sense of knowing that life can hand you some deep sadness. You can feel that depth underlying in the sincerity of her performance and the way she expresses her character so naturallly through her dance-like bodily movements. The experience of raising our children throughout the hardships and triumphs of this world is the true meaning of life. Shauna\'s tender portrayal of Hodel, so beautifully reminds us all of that message.
And yes Shauna, amazingly can sing R&B, Standards, Opera, Jazz & Blues and even has a few good Hip-Hop moves under her belt. Shauna is all about talent.
