President Kalam shares his Technology Passion at BITS Pilani

30th March 2007 will be cherished by everyone at BITS Pilani for this is the day the President of India visited this institute.
The President congratulated all the Faculty members, Students and staff of the Institute and all those who have contributed in promoting good educational standards in the Institute, during the last four decades for transformed BITS, Pilani as a world class institution. He further added that BITS Pilani with its linkages with premier educational institutions and industries has the right ambience for the creation of Global Human Resource Cadre.
Starting with computers versus human brains and India in Transformation, he spoke with passion on convergence of technologies such as ICT, Biotechnology, Nano Technology and the emergence of Intelligent Bioscience and nano robots.
He also spoke about the Indo-Russian Joint venture BRAHMOS, Pan African e-Network leading to the evolution of World Knowledge Platform to tackle burning issues concerning energy, Water, food, etc.
Dr Kalam urged the Institute to focus on the virtual university which will enable students to attend courses of their choice without geographical constraints.
Giving the instance of Sir CV Raman who way back in January 1954 gave up the pomp of a glittering Bharat Ratna award ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan stating that it was vital for him to be with his PhD student who was finishing the doctoral Thesis, Dr Kalam desired that the faculty members of the Institute will embed this quality among the students graduating from BITS, Pilani.
The President was his usual self when he answered the questions posed by seven girl students and two boys of the Institute.
This day will remain unforgettable for the entire Pilani community for all times to come.
