If you were using such web applications, integrated with Great Plains Dynamics and later on with Microsoft Great Plains as eOrder, eRequisition, you probably now aware about the need to migrate these no-longer available ASP applications to the modules, working on Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics GP Business Portal: Order Management, Requisition Management, Electronic Document Delivery, HR and Employee Self Service and others. In this small article we are discussing learning curve required to install, support and customize Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal: . Sharepoint & eConnect. Sharepoint is the platform Business Portal is built upon. eConnect is the connector between BP applications, sending data to GP and Great Plains. From the technical side - BP is set of stored procedures, organized in object oriented manner, so it allows it to be very fast in performance, plus enables various interfaces: XML web service, for example. When installing Business Portal, you will have to deal with eConnect and Sharepoint (if you don't use existing SP as a base) installations. eConnect installation settings require SQL login and password, so be aware that if you change the password for the specified user - you need to update this in eConnect settings . Requisition Management. You may think of it as upgrade or migration from eRequisition, however in fact this is completely rewritten module, this time it is in MS.Net. Requisition Management heart is approval hierarchy. If you are implementing Requisition Management, invest your time in Business Portal users and roles understanding first, then review approval hierarchy creation, assign it to the company in company setup. Important point about approval hierarchy is the fact that you have to be in it as a user (not the role) in order to be able to submit new purchase requests. When you are done with approval hierarchy, go ahead and come through requisition life cycle up to the sending purchase order to Great Plains
