Press Release Summary: The National High School Young Democrats organization plans for further outreach as youth participation reaches historic levels.
Press Release Body: In the last month and half, youth participation in Democratic primaries has reached historic levels. In the first four states where data is available (Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida), the percent of the electorate represented by youth (ages 18-29) has grown by an average of 4.25% over 2004. Even though Democratic turnout reached its highest levels this year, youth participation grew even faster.
"We expect this new excitement to translate to the youth vote becoming a huge voting bloc in November" says National Chair Alicia Forio, a high school senior. The High School Young Democrats of America has outlined an extensive plan that will work to solidify this bloc.
In addition to their weekly conference calls, the High School caucus will be meeting in Anaheim, California March 2 to discuss the future of the high school movement, and the next steps toward increasing youth involvement in politics.
The Young Democrats of America High School Caucus is making its executive board members available to the press to discuss the new vitality of the youth movement. Please contact Press Secretary Allen Gannett, YDAHSCpress@gmail.com, to coordinate an interview or obtain information for an article.
