Press Release Summary: Bangalore, June 3, 2008: The International Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore, a Deemed University, popularly known as IIIT-B, today announced the launch of Yogyata - a first of its kind Professional Certification program which aims to enhance employability for the IT sector. Radix Learning, a company focused on providing person-centric, blended-learning programs, would be the content, technology and managed learning services partner for this initiative.
Press Release Body: Yogyata will be offered as a blended-learning program that includes a right mix of several learning methodologies including face-to-face classroom lectures, web-based, multimedia-enabled, self-learning courseware, Actionable Learning modules, synchronous and asynchronous online mentoring and collaborative learning. The Yogyata curriculum has been designed based on inputs from leading IT companies based on their individual induction training programs for Application Development. The program is designed to meet the needs of a diverse set of learners, and is for a duration of four months. The highlight of Yogyata is the guarantee of jobs to all those that complete the certification with A or B grade.
Commenting on the institute's new initiative, Prof. Sadagopan, Director, IIIT-B, said, "While the challenge of employability has been spoken about repeatedly over the past few years, there has not been a structured institutional initiative of the kind that we are embarking on today. Rather than complain about the situation, it is time that academia and the industry work together to come up with a solution to make these graduates employable. Yogyata has been thought through to include what the IT industry truly needs and looks for in fresh talent. I am proud that IIIT-B has taken the lead in this area and am thankful to all the IT companies that worked with us to make this program possible."
Prof. Ramani, former Director, HP Labs India, and earlier Director, NCST, Mumbai, heads this initiative from IIIT-B. He said "Yogyata moves away from traditional educational dynamics in which the professor dispenses knowledge and students passively receive it. It uses a blended-learning approach involving several learning methodologies which continually expose the students to decisions and tasks that developers confront daily. In doing so, under the skillful guidance of a faculty member and mentors, the students not only hone their technical skills but also learn to communicate effectively and work together as a team".
Dr. K R V Subramanian, CEO, Radix Learning added "Yogyata's credibility stems from the IIIT-B brand name as well as the people behind the program - some of the best names in the learning space. One of the main innovations of this program is the use of cutting edge Actionable Learning modules, which allow the students to practice what they learn, thereby linking learning to performance. We are happy to partner with IIIT-B for this program and we are confident that the program will achieve its objective of making our students employable immediately while enabling them to develop core competencies for a long, successful career in IT".
The first batch, starting in September 2008, will target students from various engineering colleges in Karnataka. Successive batches are planned from October onwards, with focus in the southern states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. Beyond the Application Development track, there are plans to extend the program to other specialized tracks including Quality Assurance & Testing, IT Infrastructure Administration, etc. Admissions are open to persons who have completed any Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or who are at least in the third year of their engineering degree program. The blended-learning methodology offers the flexibility for Learners to enroll in the program while at college. Learners will undergo a comprehensive final assessment conducted by IIIT-B, which would be the basis for award of the Professional Certification. Placement support will be available to all students completing the certification.
